Open Text Corporation [NASDAQ: OTEX] disclosed that it has joined hands with Lakehead University to create internships opportunities for indigenous students registered at the University. As per their collaboration, more than 25 full-time summer internships will be started for Indigenous students studying at Lakehead’s Thunder Bay and Orillia campuses through the OpenText Indigenous Internship Program.
Lakehead has more than a thousand self-identified Indigenous students registered in 2020, which signifies 12% of the University’s domestic student population. It demonstrated one of the highest registrations of self-identified Indigenous students among Ontario universities.
OpenText Indigenous Internship Program
It has been disclosed that the internship period will be four months. OpenText Indigenous Internship Program will enable students to intern distantly at OpenText in the software engineering, marketing, finance, information technology, and HR departments, where they will get valuable soft and technical skills, confidence, and knowledge that will better prepare them to enter the workforce.
Furthermore, these internships will feature in-depth onboarding activities, interactions with OpenText leadership. It also includes mentorships with recognized OpenText affinity groups, and career planning and financial planning training sessions. Through this exciting collaboration with Lakehead University, OpenText will start a next-generation internship program for Indigenous students that provides a convincing route to digital jobs.
Moreover, the addition of the OpenText Indigenous Internship Program will increase the advanced experiential learning opportunities presented to students on Lakehead’s campuses and explains the dedication of the university to assist Indigenous students to expand their educational aspirations.
