FedEx Corporation [NYSE: FDX] disclosed that it has collaborated with Nuro after inking a multi-year, multi-phase agreement to test the advanced autonomous delivery vehicle of Nuro within FedEx operations. The partnership between FedEx and Nuro commenced in April with a pilot program across the Houston area.
Nuro has gained a reputation for developing and evaluating its self-driving technology for nearly five years, including on-road implementation in multiple cities and industry-first regulatory authorizations. Moreover, the firm commenced collaboration with leaders in grocery, restaurant, and pharmacy verticals. This partnership is a critical step for Nuro in entering parcel logistics.
The pilot program demonstrates the growth of Nuro into parcel logistics and offers FedEx a chance to find out various use cases for on-road independent vehicle logistics, involving multi-stop and appointment-based deliveries. The Nuro pilot is the newest addition to the FedEx portfolio of independent same-day and specialty delivery devices.
In addition to this, the exponential increase of e-commerce has speeded up the demand for trusted, independent solutions during all stages of the supply chain. FedEx is convinced that constant advancement and automation will enhance safety, efficiency, and productivity for the more than 570,000 team members of the firm as they continue to move the world ahead.
