eBay Inc. [NASDAQ: EBAY] disclosed that it is considering the option to start accepting cryptocurrency as a form of payment in the near future. The firm revealed that it is planning to get non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on its platform. Earlier, eBay has dismayed the investors with the weak prediction of Q2 profit last week. It is now planning to give surprise to the investors as it is exploring a number of ways to enter into the NFT space.
Presently, more and more firms are starting to accept cryptocurrency as payment. Recently, Tesla Inc has disclosed that it has decided to accept cryptocurrency as the new method of payment to purchase its EVs. On the other hand, PayPal which has gained recognition as the largest payment giant disclosed the preceding year that it has decided to allow clients to purchase, dump, and keep cryptocurrencies using its online wallets.
eBay issued a statement and said: “We are exploring the most appropriate forms of payment and will continue to evaluate that going forward. We have no urgent plans, but it (cryptocurrency) is something we are keeping a close watch on.”
CEO Jamie Lannone also declared that the firm is considering the option of virtual currency. He revealed that eBay is looking for options on how it will facilitate it (NFTs) on eBay in an easy way. “Everything that’s collectible has been on eBay for years and will continue to remain for the next few years,” he added.
