Facebook Inc [NASDAQ: FB] and Twitter Inc. [NYSE: TWTR] are intending to appear before the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Both the social media giants are planning to testify and currently are in discussion to give evidence as a witness in a hearing as soon as next month.
Both the firms are in talks with the lawmakers of the house of representatives and have not yet disclosed the exact purpose of the hearing. Facebook Inc is planning that its CEO Mark Zuckerberg will appear before the committee to give evidence. Twitter and its chief, Jack Dorsey, are also planning the same.
The report says that the presence of the Facebook and Twitter CEOs could be made conditional upon them give evidence in conjunction with Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and its parent company, Alphabet Inc.
The date of the hearing has not been revealed yet but people familiar with the matter disclosed that there are chances that the date of hearing will be probably next month. Twitter Inc, Google, and Facebook have not commented on the report yet.
All three representatives of the social giants appeared at a court hearing of the Senate Commerce Committee in October. Republican lawmakers asked them about their content restraint rulings while Democrats mainly concentrated on inadequate actions against the propaganda that impeded the election.
